About Jorge

StormTRACK Meteorologist Jorge Torres joined KVIA-TV in May of 2009. Previously, he interned while in college deep in the heart of Texas at KXAN-TV in Austin and KBTX-TV in Bryan/College Station.

You can watch his live weather broadcasts Monday through Friday on Good Morning El Paso from 5-7 AM and ABC-7 at Noon.

Jorge has been fascinated with the weather since his younger days along with baseball, our National Pastime (GO YANKEES). He still claims that the Jarrell, Texas Tornado of 1997 is what drove him to pursue his current career and profession. From snowstorms in New York, to tropical thunderstorms in Puerto Rico, to even hurricanes in southeast Texas, Jorge has experienced many weather phenomena and is looking forward to taking on what the Southwest has to bring.

Although he hails from Austin, Jorge's love for weather was enough for him to pack his bags and head to enemy territory for the Longhorns, Texas A&M University. In Aggieland he joined several organizations, including the Texas A&M Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, where he eventually was elected President and helped the organization earn Honor Roll status at the 2010 AMS Conference in Atlanta. Jorge also honed his on-air skills as a student radio meteorologist for 90.9 FM KAMU in College Station. He even got to chase storms with the Texas Aggie Storm Chasers, but to this day has still not seen a tornado up close.

Jorge graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology and a minor in Spanish. He received several awards and honors, including the Harold Taft Undergraduate Meteorology Scholarship, which goes to the person who best represents the skills and values of Harold Taft, the first on-air meteorologist in history! He is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the Extreme Weather Task Force, the El Paso A&M Alumni Association, and Omega Delta Phi.

Jorge enjoys exercising, baseball, talking to students about weather, spending time with family whenever he's back in Austin, Texas A&M athletics, 70s television shows (All In The Family, Sanford and Son, Good Times) along with Law and Order, Cafe Yaucono/Juan Valdez Cafe de Colombia, salsa dancing, and leading-line trailing stratiform weather systems (good luck guessing what that is)!

If you happen to know that weather system, or have any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail him at jorget@kvia.com. Gig 'em Aggies!!
